Kassiopi - Corfu - Greece
PROJECT:
PODOLAKOS
LAND FOR SALE – INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES & DEVELOPMENT
overview
A unique development opportunity has arisen in the hills above the popular village of Kassiopi and the small harbour Imerolia. A cluster of traditional stone houses in the old settlement of Podolakos have come onto the market, representing a highly unique opportunity for either a property developer, construction firm, or an individual looking to own a piece of the stunning Corfu coastline.
Nestled in the hills overlooking the Ionian sea in North East Corfu, the old settlement of traditional stone houses offers breathtaking views, making it an ideal location for the high spec villas and luxury resorts that this region of Greece is renowned for.
These character properties are built in the traditional Corfu style, and can be purchased and developed individually as small luxury holiday homes with private pools, or transformed into one or a stunning luxury resort, finished to the highest standard.
Local Area
The location could not be better suited to this type of development, with the tranquil Corfu countryside guaranteeing a peaceful atmosphere, set off by the stunning views of the North East coast. Podolakos is an area steeped in history, first formed centuries ago when the island’s residents fled into the hills away from the threat of pirates.
Remaining untouched by developers since this time, the properties are crying out for investment, to ensure this historic settlement is preserved and can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Development Potential
A unique opportunity like this does not come about often; if all houses along with the smaller stone buildings were to be purchased, a hillside village of luxury properties and hotel could be created, as has already been successfully achieved in similar areas in Corfu.
Kassiopi
The village of Kassiopi sits between the foothills of Mount Pantokrator and its rugged headland, with its hickldy-pickldy red-roofed houses, its olive groves and woodland.
There are two main streets, one up to the central square of Kassiopi, named Heroes of the Politechnic Square and one that runs the length of the village down to the pretty harbour. Boats bob gently all along the circular harbour and every now and again a heap of bright yellow fishing nets remind us that this is not just a holiday resort. Kassiopi was traditionally a fishing village and there are a number of local residents who still proudly follow the steps of their predecessors.
Overlooking the harbour is Kassiopi Castle, Its origins have not been categorically identified as building continued into the Byzantine period but it is believed to have been visited by Cleopatra of Egypt on her way to Rome in 46 BC and by the Emperor Nero who also paid his respects to the Temple of Zeus where the present day Greek Orthodox church stands. Indeed one of the main streets in Kassiopi is known as Nero’s Baths.
There are a number of bars and traditional tavernas on the harbour. By day the bars are full of calm, a wonderful location for breakfast or a leisurely morning coffee; by night a transformation takes palce and the harbour throbs with music, dancing – everyone happy to let the lively mood of the Kassiopi evening take over.
